Rare Cereal Box

Although not a record (but getting close) an extremely rare cereal box just sold on eBay for $1035.10. The 1969 Rice Honeys box features Beatles' Run-Ons in conjunction with their "Yellow Submarine" movie (ebay item: 170296884010).

Fascinating!

Breakfast politics

Just when you think you've had enough of politics, AirBed&Breakfast has come up with Obama O's and Cap'n McCain's cereals.

These are real cereals in limited edition boxes. But before you rush out to buy the boxes take note that these collectors' editions are not cheap. They are $39.00 each, plus shipping.

I bet they'll sell out!

Frosty O's

While not a record, today a 70's empty box of General Mills' Frosty O's sold on ebay for $761.99! (ebay item 300261546913).

The rare nature of this box along with its nostalgic value certainly contributed to the high selling price. More indication of the emotional connection many people have with cereal.

The passsion of cereal box collecting

Cereal box collecting is a growing hobby for those fascinated with the expressions of pop culture in these marketing containers. I am an avid collector myself, but it's always interesting to read of the passion of serious collectors of cereal boxes. The Roanoke Times recently ran a story that included the story of Bob Konrad, a Michigan collector with over 2000 boxes in his collection.

What's scary is that I can identify with Bob's obsession.

Cereal box collecting

Because of the creative marketing behind cereal, a growing hobby is cereal box collecting. Being a collector myself, I know the look the people give me when I first tell them of my interest, but once they think about it they can understand the fascination.
Here's an article that originally appeared in the Minneapolis Star Tribune about Robb Berry of Duluth, MN who is one of the leading collectors, with 4000 boxes in his collection. An interesting read.
