Curves cereal

I reported on this back in February when stories started appearing on the blogosphere, but pulled the story when General Mills started threatening legal action against those who had leaked it. But, it's now official...

The Dallas Business Journal is reporting that Curves women's fitness centers and General Mills are teaming up to launch a line of health oriented granola bars and cereals. Other reports indicate that the new cereal will be available in Honey Nut and Whole Wheat flavors. The cereal itself sounds far from exciting, but the marketing is ingenious and will help General Mills compete against Kellogg 's successful positioning of Special K to women.

They have made Curves brand granola bars. They look no different than the other cereal/breakfast bars. You can find them at Walgreens if you need - But I still recommend fruits and veggies!

Something scares me about Curves breakfast, like the ad campaign. The breakfast cereal shows a black woman's head with a white woman's body. What are they trying to say?

Curves is a genius at marketing and that's about it. This cereal has no less calories than most cereals. Compare a 3/4 cup serving (yes, that's what a 100 calorie serving of Curves cereal is - 3/4 of a cup - a tiny amount) to most other cereals on the market - including junk cereals. Special K used this marketing too even though their cereal generally had the same amount of calories as other cereals. Really - it's unbelieveable people fall for this. Plus, Curves cereal has virtually no protein per serving. You can find natural cereals out there that have significant protein and other nutrients and the same or only slightly more calories per 3/4 cup serving.

True, Curves cereal is hardly nutritionally sound for what they are trying to promote. In the end, Curves could suffer from this inconsistent connection.

I personally eat Curves every morning for breakfast. I probably eat 1-2 cups depending on how hungry I am. I've lost 10 pounds in two weeks! I've not changed anything else about my lifestyle or eating habits, in fact I'm probably a less active than normal. Despite what everyone is saying I find this to be a healthy way to start the day and a delicious way as well!

Hey I found the box with the black woman with the white navel-less belly on it... wtf? I emailed general mills about it. I think it was a pointed (and hysterical) email... Hope they get back to me.. But yeh, it's not especially great for you, it's just a smaller portion of cereal. Such nonsense.

If you pay attention to the picture, it's a shirt underneath the orange shirt, it is not a white body and black head. I think you guys need glasses. uh...thats why their is no belly button. You guys made me laugh with that. LOL.

No kidding, "Anonymous" at 12:41. When people want to pick at something, they'll pick at anything. They're not even concerned about the actual nutrition value (or lack thereof), for heaven's sake.

Everyone's ragging on it, but the cereal does have one thing going for it: it has significantly more fiber than other "healthy" cereals like the puffed-rice blood-sugar-warping Special K. Of course, you can get the same fiber with a third the sugar in a box of Bran Flakes, but if women have been gobbling up the simple carbs for years and can't fathom eating something without a major label on it, this would help cut down the morning snacks.
